FAQ
Below are answers to common questions about working with Unravel. This page is here to help you understand what our support looks like, what we can and cannot offer, and how to decide if our programmes are the right fit for you.
You can understand exactly why you drink, vape, scroll, gamble, overeat, people-please, or reach for the same distraction — and still find yourself doing it again. That’s not a failure of insight. It’s how patterns work. You may feel called to this if: • PTSD or trauma triggers keep you on alert and interfere with your ability to relax into life. • You no longer feel like your ‘old self’ and want to return to clarity, vitality and presence. • Sleep has become guarded or interrupted — including onset insomnia or restless nights tied to nervous system tension. • Anxiety or depression have become familiar companions, reducing your energy and sense of possibility. • Substance-based coping patterns continue looping despite your awareness and desire to stop. • You recognise behavioural addiction cycles — scrolling, distraction, avoidance. You don’t have to know what your pattern is called to start looking for help. Start wherever your own experience sits.
Trauma patterns don’t disappear because you understand them. The behaviour you can see is only ever part of the story — underneath it is a loop, running automatically, faster than conscious thought. Unravel uses consciousness technology to help identify and work with the pattern underneath an unwanted behaviour or response. The technology supports the process — it isn’t the story by itself. Recognise. Unravel. Reset. Rebuild. The same four stages, whatever the pattern.
Very little. Be somewhere you can rest at your session time, avoid intense conversation or exercise while it runs, and reply to our check-in with anything you’ve noticed.
Unravel is not traditional talk therapy or counselling. Talk therapy helps a person understand experiences, thoughts, emotions and patterns through conversation and relationship. Unravel works with the underlying pattern and automatic response itself, using proprietary consciousness technology as part of the process. There’s no talk therapy and no need to share details of past experiences. Medication, talk therapy and Unravel aren’t competing answers to the same question — they’re different doorways. None of them replaces the others.
Sessions run remotely at a time that suits you. You don’t need to be online or take part while a session is running. • 90–120 min — the length of each remote session. • No video call — there’s nothing to log in to and no one to talk to during the session. • No talk therapy — you won’t need to describe, revisit or relive anything. While a session runs, it’s best to: • Rest • Journal, if you’d like to • Sleep. You don’t have to stay awake. It’s best to avoid: • Intense conversation • Active exercise
The process is non-invasive and does not require reliving or retelling what happened. The work doesn’t depend on your story, so your story stays with you. No specific trauma or personal detail is read for you. Nothing about your experiences is recorded or kept. If you are in crisis or feel unsafe, contact your GP or call or text 1737 (NZ) any time.
No strict fasting or ritual preparation is required. Session times are agreed together, then we schedule them for you. Many clients prefer a time when they can relax and journal afterwards, or close to their usual bedtime.
Yes. Unravel does not interfere with medical care, therapy, or alternative healing modalities. It can sit alongside medical care, psychotherapy, or a rehabilitation programme. Unravel isn’t a replacement for medication, psychotherapy, medical treatment, or rehabilitation. For patterns involving physical dependence — including alcohol, benzodiazepines, and opioids such as fentanyl or heroin — stopping can carry real medical risk. Unravel works alongside your prescriber or treating clinician, not in place of them, and does not manage medical detox or supervised withdrawal. Always continue any prescribed care unless advised otherwise by a qualified medical professional.
The nervous system often builds protective structures over time — releasing too much at once would not be kind. Multiple sessions allow the body to integrate at a natural pace, absorbing each shift before moving deeper. Everyone’s experience is different. That’s why we check in after each session, so the next one can be adjusted to you. Different patterns call for different levels of support — from a focused starting point to an intensive, structured pathway.
Yes — but only under one condition: there must be full consent and genuine willingness from the person receiving the sessions. There is a disclaimer upon booking that clarifies this.If you are booking for a loved one, note that there must be full consent aligned with our booking disclaimer and provided they are genuinely willing to take part. Please note that Unravel does not accept bookings for crisis or acute situations. Your care is acknowledged — and so is their right to choose their own timing in this process.
Everyone’s experience is different. That’s why we check in after each session, so the next one can be adjusted to you. If you feel “nothing” during a session, it does not mean nothing is happening. It isn’t a guarantee, a diagnosis, or a claim to cure. Every pattern and every person is different.
A short form you complete before your first session. It gives your consent for us to work in your information field and records your date of birth. You won’t be asked to describe past experiences.
No. Many clients schedule a session close to their usual bedtime so it runs as they fall asleep.
